Risk Assessment

As well as being a statutory duty for any employer a risk assessment is an important step in protecting your workers and your business. They help you focus on the significant risks in your workplace i.e. the ones with the potential to cause harm.

The process seeks to identify suitable and sufficient control measures. The law does not expect you to eliminate all risk, but you are required to protect people as far as is ‘reasonably practicable’.

There are many myths associated with risk assessments. The process should not be daunting but all too often businesses shy away from this function or go completely the opposite way and re write “War and Peace”. The process falls apart however, if those assessments are not brought to the attention of those workers exposed to the hazards.
